“Fear The Walking Dead” Season 5 is officially in production and it would seem that there are quite a few confusing mechanisms in the works. For starters, there is the matter of a crossover occurring between the show and its progenitor, “The Walking Dead.” It would appear that there is still a possibility of this happening despite the time jump.
Speaking to Comic Book, co-showrunner Ian Goldberg provided some details with regards to “Fear The Walking Dead” Season 5. Specifically, he noted how the story is taking the characters back to Austin, Texas, which should prove quite interesting.
"We are filming in Austin again for Season Five," Goldberg said. "But what we can say is we, without giving away sort of where we're going story-wise, we will be exploring different parts of the greater Austin area, and possibly the greater Texas area, as part of the story we're telling. So we're always trying to avoid repetition, and that will continue, yeah, as these characters take the next evolution in their journey."
The location in which “Fear The Walking Dead” Season 5 will be set will have a huge impact on the kind of narrative direction that fans can expect from it. After all, Austin, Texas is bound to have a different atmosphere than if it was set in somewhere like Dallas. There is also the matter of Scott Gimple talking about how it is still possible for the two zombie shows to collide in the future even with the time jump.
“It does not [rule out more crossovers],” Scott Gimple said. “That’s about all I got to say. It does not but I wouldn’t expect it all the time. Things could happen. You never know who might pop up on Fear the Walking Dead. That includes The Walking Dead and potentially people in the past from Fear the Walking Dead.”
“Fear The Walking Dead” Season 5 is expected to premiere in late 2019. With the upcoming season already in production, there shouldn’t be any obstacles for a smooth return.
