‘Fifty Shades Darker’ actor Jamie Dornan recalled his “bloody awful” experience of working on the film amidst the terrorist attack in France. He also talked about welcoming baby number 2 with wife Amelia Warner in a separate interview on ‘Live! With Kelly’.
According to Comingsoon.net, Dornan recalled working on director James Foley’s upcoming sequel to the blockbuster hit ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ amidst the Bastille Day terrorist attacks in France that claimed 85 lives on July 14. He called the experience “a bloody awful situation”.
Dornan said, “You’d be affected by it wherever you were in the world. Most of the cast and crew were actually staying in Monaco so there’s a little bit of distance there, but my family and I wanted a little bit more space so we were actually staying in Nice. The first thing that everyone has to work out was is everybody safe, is the whole crew and cast safe. Then you have the strange thing of the next day still trying to make this movie that’s costing millions of dollars to put together.
He added, “There’s this contractual obligation to work the next day, which is a very strange environment to work in. It felt very frivolous and wrong to be making something as silly as a f**king movie the day after something like that happened.”
Filming the sequel began in France and Vancouver from February 9 through July 12 with some additional scenes shot around chosen locations in France. Despite the attacks, Dornan expressed his optimism with the sequel’s progress.
He said, “The general feeling on set has altered, definitely, because the energy of the director is at the top of the pyramid and that trickles down to the whole 200-strong crew… Some elements have shifted somewhat, but it’s still a lot of the same recurring crew and the actors are the same, much of it doesn’t really change. Regardless of changing the director or changing the screenwriter, I think when you’re two or three -or back-to-back- into a franchise everyone’s relaxed a little bit, everyone can enjoy it a bit more because the pressure’s slightly off, so I think there’s definitely an element of that.”
Dornan returns to play the main protagonist Christian Grey, a charming young entrepreneur with a dark side. He is obsessed with the concept of BDSM. Dornan is joined by returning actress Dakota Johnson, who plays Christian’s BDSM lover Anastasia “Ana” Steele.
According to IMDB, other members of the cast include Tyler Hoechlin, Kim Basinger, Max Martini, Rita Ora, Hugh Dancy, Bella Heathcote, Marcia Gay Harden, Eric Johnson, and Luke Grimes among others. It is produced under Universal Pictures.
Meanwhile, Dornan recently opened up about welcoming fatherhood for the second time around during an interview on ‘Live! With Kelly’ hosted by Kelly Rippa and Nick Lachey. According to E! News, the 34-year old actor and model talked about having a new addition to the family with wife Amelia Warner.
He said, "We've got two little girls now, so it's pretty insane," he said. "One of my best friends said that one is a pet, two is a zoo… It's been a big adjustment and it's definitely harder and you get less time to yourself, but human beings are very good at adaptation… You have to just go with it and accept less sleep and accept less time in your hands and accept less reading of books and washing and all the usual things you do in a day."
Dornan and Warner welcomed their second child last March. They also have a two-year old daughter named Dulcie, who was born in late November 2013.
‘Fifty Shades Darker’ is an upcoming erotic drama-thriller film directed by James Foley. It is the second installment in the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ cinematic series based on the bestselling books by E.L. James. Its predecessor was heavily panned by critics but became a mainstream box office success after earning $570.98 worldwide on a production budget of $40 million.
The sequel is scheduled to premiere in theaters in the United States on February 10, 2017.
