It’s finally happening. Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, the remastered version of the original Final Fantasy XII that Square Enix released on the PlayStation 4 is coming to PC. The title will feature improved graphics along with a bunch of new features that enhance the gameplay experience of the 2006 game. It will be available on Steam on February 1st.
The most appealing part about the remastered FFXII is obviously its improved HD graphics. However, the more exciting part of the PC version is that it comes with more options for the more versatile system, Gamespot reports.
For starters, the game will run at a solid, buttery smooth 60 frames per second, which is not available even on the more powerful PS4 Pro console. This addresses one of the most common complaints that PC gamers have when it comes to remastered console titles. It will also be compatible with 48:9 monitors, which should be a neat bonus for those who would like their return to Ivalice on a grand screen.
Aside from the graphical improvements and PC optimization aspects, The Zodiac Age will reportedly come with New Game Plus and even New Game Minus modes. These modes will be unlocked right from the start and Square is throwing in some neat configuration options. Now, players can be uber powerful right from the get-go or be super weak all through the game.
To get more information out of the developers with regards to new features of the remastered game, PC Gamer sent producer Hiroaki Kato some questions. The producer gladly obliged.
PC gamers will likely appreciate that the game will have mouse & keyboard support, but will be less thrilled about the lack of modding options. Kato did note the importance of the PC platform to the future of gaming, however, and will keep its significance in mind when developing games down the road.
