By this time, it should be clear among video game fans that “Final Fantasy VII Remake” is not going to be their typical remastered release. Major changes are in order such as launching it in multiple parts and making it into an action role-playing game.
The talks about having a multi-part series for “Final Fantasy VII Remake” started shortly after its announcement in 2015. At the time, some fans thought Square Enix are opting for an episodic format that means each part will only have a few hours worth of content.
Screen Rant recalled that developers refrain from calling their “Final Fantasy VII Remake” launch plans as an episodic release. And the explanation was provided by producer Yoshinori Kitase back in 2016.
Kitase confirmed that “Final Fantasy VII Remake” is launching in multiple parts. But he explained to Game Informer (via IGN), “It will essentially be a full-scale game for each part of the multi-part series [...] if we're just looking at each of these parts, one part should be on par with the scale of one ‘Final Fantasy XIII’ game." The producer also said the multi-part launch structure will retain the flow of the “preexisting story” based on the original version of the game.
About three years since the development of “Final Fantasy VII Remake” was confirmed, fans are still clueless about its official release date. And it could be because the game is not expected to launch anytime soon, especially not this year.
As mentioned, Square Enix is doing more than just improving the game’s graphics. It was reported last year that the company was looking to hire new developers for the game that was explicitly described “Final Fantasy VII Remake” as an RPG with “action elements.”
It has since been reported that “Final Fantasy VII Remake” is being developed as an action RPG that means it uses a combat-based gameplay structure. It will give players more control on real-time actions while playing, which means it requires more work than simply improving the game’s appearance for the newer generation of gaming consoles.
