Author George RR Martin has recently resurfaced to clarify recent developments in the “Game Of Thrones” franchise.
According to him, there are actually five, not four, pilot scripts in development, as previously reported. Martin said that after the official announcement, HBO has since added another script in the lineup. However, he said that the scripts does not predetermine the number of shows that would be developed.
"Decades of experience in television and film have taught me that nothing is ever really certain... but I do think it's very unlikely that we'll be getting four (or five) series. At least not immediately. What we do have here is an order for four — now five — pilot scripts. How many pilots will be filmed, and how many series might come out of that, remains to be seen. (If we do get five series on the air, I might have to change my name to Dick Direwolf,)" he wrote.
Martin also shot down rumors that the upcoming spinoffs will introduce the characters we have all come to love. He said the plots in the scripts ordered occur prior to the events in “Game Of Thrones,” and none will document “Robert’s Rebellion,” Buzzfeed reported.
But if there’s one thing fans are grateful of, it would be Martin’s assurance that the sixth novel of his “A Song of Ice and Fire” series will definitely finish. He did say, however, that they would have to wait a little bit more, the Guardian said.
“Yes, I am still working on Winds of Winter and I will continue working on it until it’s done. I will confess, I do wish I could clone myself, or find a way to squeeze more hours into the day, or a way to go without sleep. But this is what it is, so I keep juggling,” Martin explained.
