On Thursday, “Game of Thrones” fans were in for a much-needed gift: the premiere dated of its highly-awaited Season 7 premiere.
The release of the HBO fantasy drama’s return to TVlandia, however, started with some unsuccessful live streams on its official Facebook account, Buzzfeed observed. However, the final attempt revealed that the show will return on July 16, 2017, with the end of the stream showing various sigils of the families seeking to claim the Iron Throne. Audio clips from past episodes are also overheard.
New York Times said the revelation actually was a hardworking one for fans, of which the show asks viewers to comment “Fire” as the block of ice concealing the premiere gets melted off. “Game of Thrones” stars like Isaac Hempstead Wright and Lena Headey jumped in certain parts of the live stream to urge the melting, which lasted for around 15 minutes. After over an hour of live stream stops, the date was revealed.
Just after the big reveal on live stream, Kit Harington spoke to ABC News about Season 7, of which he said is "much grander" than anything the show’s fans have seen before.
While promoting his new film "Brimstone" on ABC News, he said, "[Season 7 has] so much more ambition. There are less episodes this year, so they spent more money on those episodes. So, the whole scale of it is up."
Harington, who plays the newly-resurrected Jon Snow in the series, said he wants “Game of Thrones” to go out “with a bang.”
"That has to happen at the end of 'Thrones,' this season and next season. It has to go into places TV hasn't been," he said, without dishing any more spoilers.
