With only a few weeks left before “Halo Infinite” Season 2 goes live, 343 Industries announced more details about the anticipated Last Spartan Standing game mode. While the developer refrained from calling it a battle royale, most of its mechanics resemble the popular multiplayer genre.
The developer released the latest preview of “Halo Infinite” Season 2 called “Lone Wolves.” The video focused on four upcoming features, including the new Last Spartan Standing mode. 343 Industries provided more details in an accompanying blog post that shows how the game mode is going to be similar and different from the conventional battle royale games.
Many “Halo Infinite” players have been calling Last Spartan Standing a mini battle royale, while 343 Industries have referred to it as a free-for-all game mode. It will use several Big Team Battle maps and every match will be joined by 12 players equipped with a “confined loadout” at the beginning of the game. But they can upgrade their weapon once they get a kill.
Aside from the smaller player count per match, Last Spartan Standing is also mainly different from other battle royale titles because each player gets five respawns. Once they used up all their respawns, “Halo Infinite” players can stay and spectate or leave the match before it ends without incurring any penalty.
“Halo Infinite’s” version of care packages are the Random Equipment and Power Equipment that will drop via Ordnance Pods. Players can also pick up other equipment “in some interior locations,” much like how it plays out in other battle royale games. But players will be getting random grenades every time they respawn.
The return of King of the Hill is also an anticipated update in “Halo Infinite” Season 2. However, 343 Industries have applied some changes to the game mode. “A neutral hill spawns on the map and two teams battle it out to control the hill and earn points,” Wakeford wrote. Players can claim a hill uncontested and they will earn 1 point every second they are on that hill.
The next season will also bring in the Land Grab game mode. “Halo Infinite” players will find three neutral zones on the map at the beginning of a match. A team earns a point upon capturing a zone. Once all three zones are captured, new neutral zones spawn after an intermission. The first team to reach 11 points wins the match. “Lone Wolves” will be released on May 3.
