It has been over two years since the making of “High School Musical 4” was confirmed. Unfortunately, 2018 is about to end likely without a substantial update on the TV movie’s production or development.
On a more positive note, Disney has not yet announced the cancellation of “High School Musical 4” either. Added to that, IMDb still lists the movie as an “in development” project so there is still hope. Unfortunately, though, fans are kept in the dark whether or not the title will have a 2019 release date.
Something that has been confirmed for some time now is that no one from the cast of the trilogy is signed to join the “High School Musical 4.” The same IMDb listing also has a list of the “preliminary cast” that cites Bart Johnson will reprise his role as Coach Jack Bolton. However, it is important to note that neither the actor nor Disney have yet to make any official announcement regarding this matter.
Obviously, “High School Musical 4” will introduce an entirely new generation of East High School students. But the reports character descriptions (via TVLine) would definitely take avid fans of the franchise down the memory lane.
The main character in “High School Musical 4” is named Campbell and has been literally dubbed as “the new Troy (Zac Efron).” He is Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) and Sharpay’s (Ashley Tisdale) cousin. But not even that relation guarantees Tisdale will be revisiting East High.
In an earlier interview with E! News, Tisdale explained why she could not come back as Sharpay in “High School Musical 4.” “I've matured so much, I just don't know if I could give her justice — Sharpay — and be that character again. And I would hate to not have it be great,” the Disney channel alum explained.
Meanwhile, Campbell’s love interest in “High School Musical 4” is a girl named Erin. Interestingly, she plays for the school’s boys’ soccer team with Campbell and the apple of her eyes named Derek.
