In the wake of a concerning fire incident, Hyundai and Kia are urgently offering free inspections for electric vehicles across South Korea, aiming to restore public confidence and ensure vehicle safety.
Free EV Inspections by Hyundai and Kia After Fire Incident
After a fire caused worry in the region, the two biggest manufacturers in South Korea, Hyundai and Kia, announced a free service to assess electric vehicles, Electrek reports. A free examination is available at any Hyundai or Kia service shop, so electric vehicle owners can rest easy.
Government officials in Incheon, South Korea, are requesting that car manufacturers reveal battery information in the wake of a fire involving a Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle.
Kia Primarily Utilizes Batteries from LG and SK
Several automakers have willingly made this data public, including Hyundai, Kia, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. When it comes to electric vehicles, Hyundai primarily employs LG Energy Soluton and SK On, whilst Kia primarily uses LGES and SK, with two models utilizing CATL batteries.
In addition to SK and LGES, Mercedes also makes use of Fararis Energy and CATL, two Chinese battery manufacturers.
Mercedes did not name the company responsible for the fire, but according to reports in the area, it was Farasis Energy. Mercedes allegedly received an urging from Korea's transport ministry to examine the aforementioned automobile.
Joining Hyundai and Kia in offering free electric vehicle checks on all models on Wednesday, Mercedes-Korea also made the announcement.
Mercedes will also provide 4.5 million won, or $3.3 million, to aid fire victims.
Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis EV Owners Get Free Checks
Those who own electric vehicles from Hyundai, Kia, or Genesis can schedule a complimentary examination at any of their service centers across the country. Damage to undercarriage components, insulation resistance, voltage deviation, cooling system, damaged cables and connectors, and malfunctioning codes will all be checked during the service.
"Through this inspection, we will help alleviate anxiety about electric vehicles and support customers in driving safely," stated an official from Hyundai.
