‘Indiana Jones 5’ may get a reboot as revealed by Disney’s Bob Iger. He revealed that the fifth installment will not be the end of the franchise. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg confirmed George Lucas’ involvement in the upcoming film.
According to Digital Spy, Disney CEO Bob Iger admitted that the ‘Indiana Jones’ cinematic franchise will not be ending following the release of the yet untitled fifth installment starring Harrison Ford.
Iger said, "Right now, we're focused on a reboot, or a continuum and then a reboot of some sort… Well, we'll bring [Harrison Ford] back, then we have to figure out what comes next. That's what I mean. It's not really a reboot, it's a boot—a reboot. I don't know.”
He added, “I don't think it reaches the scale of the universe of Star Wars, but I see making more. It won't be just a one-off."
Spielberg revealed during a previous interview that he will not be killing off Ford’s Indy in the new film nor would he make one without the actor in it. However, it remains unclear how much of the “reboots” would feature the return of Ford as the titular archaeologist and explorer.
The 73-year old actor Ford will be back to portray one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history. He first donned a fedora and bull whip in the 1981 film ‘Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark’ directed by Spielberg. The film was a financial and critical success, earning a total lifetime gross of $389.93 million worldwide against a production budget of $18 million.
Ford reprised his role in the sequels ‘Temple of Doom’, ‘Last Crusade’, and ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’. Although the latter’s reception was mixed, it was also deemed successful at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, the fourth film earned $786.64 million worldwide against a $185 million budget.
Meanwhile, Spielberg also announced George Lucas’ involvement in the upcoming film. According to Blastr, the filmmaker revealed the news during a press tour for his fantasy-adventure animated film ‘The BFG’. He said, “George is going to be an executive producer on it with me. Of course I would never make an Indiana Jones film without George Lucas. That would be insane.”
‘Indiana Jones 5’ is an upcoming action-adventure film directed by Steven Spielberg with a screenplay written by David Koepp. It is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. It is scheduled to be released on June 19, 2019.
