Israeli fire killed at least three Palestinians in two separate incidents across the Gaza Strip, according to local health authorities, highlighting the fragility of the ceasefire agreed in October between Israel and Hamas. The incidents come amid rising tensions and continued accusations of ceasefire violations by both sides, despite a general reduction in large-scale fighting.
Medical officials in Gaza said one Palestinian was killed in the Tuffah neighbourhood of Gaza City, an area described as being under Palestinian control. In a separate incident, two Palestinians were killed in the southern Gaza Strip in the town of Bani Suhaila, located east of Khan Younis. This area remains under Israeli military occupation, according to local sources.
The Israeli military provided its own account of the events, stating that its forces fired on a person it described as a “terrorist” who crossed into an area under Israeli control in northern Gaza and posed an immediate threat. In southern Gaza, the military said another individual was killed in an airstrike after approaching Israeli troops operating in the area, also claiming the person posed an imminent danger.
Although fighting has largely subsided since the ceasefire was reached in October, marking a pause after two years of intense conflict, violence has not completely stopped. Israel and Hamas have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce, contributing to ongoing instability in the region.
A Hamas official told Reuters on Sunday that the group had urged international mediators to intervene, accusing Israel of carrying out “daily killings” that it said were intended to undermine the ceasefire agreement. According to Gaza health officials, more than 440 Palestinians have been killed since the truce came into effect, with most of the victims reported to be civilians. During the same period, three Israeli soldiers have also been killed.
The continued loss of life underscores the volatility of the situation in Gaza and raises concerns about the durability of the ceasefire. As international efforts to maintain calm continue, the latest incidents serve as a reminder that the risk of further escalation remains high, despite ongoing diplomatic mediation and calls for restraint.
