Following three major endorsements for former vice president Joe Biden, it can be assumed that the presidential candidate is all the more going to be the Democratic nominee. However, Biden has yet to win over influential New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who says he should shed some light on his stance on a number of issues.
Speaking to Politico, the New York Congresswoman, also known as AOC was asked about Biden becoming the presumptive Democratic nominee. AOC stated that if Biden wants to win over the progressives of the left-wing, then he will have to expand on his stance regarding several key issues such as the federal treatment in Puerto Rico as well as immigration, climate change, and health care.
“There are very real, tangible areas where Democrats even fell short perhaps during the Obama administration that I think I would like for us to have a plan to improve,” said the New York Congresswoman, who has also given her thoughts about who Biden’s potential running-mate would be.
The former vice president was already committed to choosing a woman as a running-mate in the November elections, with his former rivals among the names that were often floated around as potential picks. Senators Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar, and Kamala Harris are among those names. But AOC says that it is more important for the public to know not just the identity of the woman in terms of gender and race, but where she would stand on several issues that would be presented.
Nevertheless, despite being very critical of Biden’s platform, AOC is determined to bridge the divide and unite the party, much like all the other Democrat lawmakers. “I think it’s incredibly important that we support the Democratic nominee in November.”
Meanwhile, Biden slammed President Donald Trump in a virtual town hall Wednesday accusing Trump of “throwing temper tantrums” in the midst of a crisis that has seen hundreds of thousands of people infected with over 20,000 people dead. This was in light of a very heated White House briefing the other day this week.
“He likes to say he’s a wartime president, well, he needs to step up and act like one. Not harangue the press for hours on end while people are dying, your friends and coworkers are dying, our family members and friends are dying, while Trump is having temper tantrums about his authority,” said Biden.
