LG Energy Solution has a new expert in the house after it hired a former Nvidia data scientist to be its chief digital officer (CDO). The South Korean company created this new job position recently, and it has now found the very first executive to hold the role in the company.
As per The Korea Times, LG Energy Solution announced on Monday, Feb. 21, that a prominent expert in machine learning has joined the company. The company named Pyun Kyung Suk as its new CDO, who will lead LGES' quest to digitally transform its international facilities into data-centric operations.
Pyun was said to have come from Nvidia's Silicon Valley headquarters, and in particular, he led the works to improve Nvidia's competitiveness in quality by creating a special inspection system for screening product defects. This technique is now part of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) AI curriculum.
The expert also previously worked as one of the main data scientists at an AI computing company in the U.S. He spearheaded a number of projects in this firm as the lead architect in the autonomous vehicles unit as well as industrial AI and cloud AI.
What's more, he also served as one of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers's senior members, which allowed him to be associated with other global experts in various fields. The group is one of the largest professional associations for electrical and electronic engineers in the world.
Some of the major companies he worked for before joining Nvidia include Samsung Electronics and Hewlett Packard software companies. In any case, LG Electronics Solution's new CDO graduated from Stanford University and received MS and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering with a focus on machine learning and computer vision. He studied at Seoul National University for his bachelor's degree in control and instrumentation engineering.
"Dr. Pyun has gained global perspective and experience in operating and developing solutions for AI-based monitoring in smart manufacturing," LG Energy Solution said in a press release. "We are thrilled to have him as Dr. Pyun is the right fit who is capable of accelerating efforts to turn LGES's global battery manufacturing facilities into smart factories. Based on his accumulated experience in world-renowned firms, we expect LGES to take a further step forward in battery manufacturing processes by utilizing AI and big data technology.
