Following Lee Min Ho’s completion of his mandatory military enlistment that ended in April, fans of the actor have been asking what his new project is going to be. It was initially assumed that a sequel of “The Heirs” or “The Legend of the Blue Seas” would take up the 31-year-old’s time, but those assumptions proved off the mark.
Instead, Lee Min Ho will be starring in a new fantasy series called “The King: Forever Sovereign,” also known as “The King: Eternal Monarch.” The actor will be headlining the Korean drama as he’ll be playing Emperor Lee Gon, Kpopmap reported.
The story will revolve around two different worlds. One will be set in modern day Korea, while the other is placed in ancient times. The two universes will be connected by a doorway opened by a demon. Lee Min Ho’s character will be tasked to close this portal as it’s threatening the existence of both realities.
To help him achieve this lofty goal, he’ll be enlisting the help of detective Jeong Tae Eul, played by actress Kim Go Eun. But the partnership will prove problematic as Jeong’s counterpart in the other world is a criminal named Luna. Naturally, the monarch will be wary of Jeong at first as he’s unsure what to make of the detective and this strange new world that he finds himself in. Together, both will try to seal the opening and restore the natural order of things. It’s still unclear whether Lee Min Ho will be playing another character in the drama, similar to what his co-stars will be doing.
Aside from Kim, Woo Do Hwan has also been cast as one of the stars of the upcoming fantasy series, Allkpop reported. The actor will be playing two characters. He’ll be an ordinary social service worker in modern reality while acting as the bodyguard of Lee Min Ho’s character in the ancient era. With renowned writer Kim Eun Sook helming the series, fans and critics alike are excited how this project will shape up, especially with such talented actors included in its roster.
