Marcus Stroman joining the ranks of the New York Mets has been met with considerable optimism by the team. The Mets have been enjoying a smooth ride before Stroman’s arrival, garnering a seven-win streak that got fans and analysts perking up.
But that all deflated when the Pittsburgh Pirates put an end to that streak after defeating the Mets 8-4 on the back of Steven Matz’s massive stumble. It was Marcus Stroman’s debut, and the Mets lost.
But despite the disappointment, manager Mickey Callaway isn’t losing focus. Callaway previously said that although they were planning to extend the aforementioned streak with Marcus Stroman, he admitted that the road would only get harder from here. And it did.
Marcus Stroman said Blue Jays didn’t offer him anything
The 44-year-old appears okay with the loss. Enthusiastic even. Callaway said that the team isn’t taking it hard and they’re planning to start another streak soon, Newsday reported. With Marcus Stroman on the lineup, that could be a possibility.
Meanwhile, Stroman’s trade to the Mets is making headlines again after he said some scathing words to Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins. Marcus Stroman recently revealed that Toronto didn’t give him any sort of deal and if the Blue Jays said otherwise, it’s a lie.
The 28-year-old went on to say that even though he’s been performing well with the team, his efforts were met with silence by the front office. While Atkins has yet to respond, it’s believed that the Blue Jays’ silence stems from the fact that Marcus Stroman simply didn’t command an enticing package from other teams.
Marcus Stroman could use Mets’ recent loss as motivation
With the Mets’ recent loss, Marcus Stroman is in a position to create a strong narrative for himself and prove to the Blue Jays why their decision was wrong. New York is eyeing vengeance tomorrow as they’ll be meeting with the Pirates again.
Hopefully, Matz’s blunder wouldn’t cling to him, and he returns in winning form once they hit the field. Marcus Stroman really believes that the Mets have a winning roster, especially with the team opting to keep Noah Syndergaard, Zack Wheeler, and Edwin Diaz.
“I was praying we didn’t trade any of those guys because I truly think we can have the best staff in all of baseball. I hope I can come in and just add to that,” Marcus Stroman said.
