When BioWare confirmed “Mass Effect: Legendary Edition” is in the pipeline, the developer also provided a “Spring 2021” release window. However, some reports suggest the actual launch could happen slightly earlier than that.
‘Mass Effect: Legendary Edition’ release date in early 2021?
The remastered versions of the “Mass Effect” trilogy were one of the most anticipated releases this year, even before the project was announced. Rumors about the remastered trilogy started when some video game retailers let a few customers pre-order a mysterious game making references to N7 back in September.
Since then, known video game tipsters have suggested the collection’s potential late 2020 launch. But when the developers officially announced “Mass Effect: Legendary Edition” last November (on N7 day), BioWare promised the game will be released in spring 2021 that usually means anytime between March and May. However, GameSpot and Bleeding Cool have both reported that the remastered trilogy would be released in February 2021.
With two slightly different pieces of information here, it seems like the most logical choice is to believe the timeline that BioWare provided. But fans will likely appreciate a small surprise of getting “Mass Effect: Legendary Edition” a tad earlier than expected. Regardless, having something to look forward to after almost a decade since “Mass Effect 3” was released is still good news for avid fans of the franchise.
‘Mass Effect: Legendary Edition’ compatibility: What to expect
Another indication that “Mass Effect: Legendary Edition” is getting released a few months from now is that Amazon has started accepting pre-orders for the remastered collection. As of this writing, the only versions available for pre-order are PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. But that should not both players using other systems, especially those who were lucky enough to get PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Part of “Mass Effect: Legendary Edition’s” official announcement last month was the confirmation that will be released on PC as well. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S players will also be able to play it through forward compatibility, which means they could purchase the PS4 and Xbox One versions. BioWare also promised there will be “targeted enhancements” on new-gen consoles, but details on that will not arrive until next year.
