First lady Melania Trump has her Be Best initiative that focuses on the overall well-being of children. As part of her initiative, Melania attended a briefing regarding the protection of Native American children.
According to the statement released by the White House, Melania joined the White House task force on Protecting Native American Children in the Indian Health Service System. Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway, the first lady’s Chief of Staff Stephanie Grisham, Deputy Chief of Staff to the first lady Emma Doyle, and members of the task force: Co-chair Trent Shores, Bo Leach from the Bureau of Indian Affairs, FBI Office for Victim’s Assistance and Child Victim Services Unit forensic interviewer Stephanie Knapp, Tribal Liason and assistant US attorney from the Northern District of Oklahoma Shannon Bears Cozzoni, HHS Office Special Agent Curt Muller and Navajo Nation Executive Director Santee Lewis were present during the briefing.
The task force was formed back in March 2019 by Melania’s husband, Donald Trump, to combat allegations of potential child sexual abuse in the IHS.
During the briefing, Shores stressed the importance of collaborating with tribal leaders in the Native American community. Melania explained the need for children to be able to feel safe to speak about abuse and stressed the importance of getting rid of the stigma that surrounds mental health so children could be secure and safe enough to be heard.
“I know that this administration inherited many of these problems, but I am very proud that you are still working to protect children to prevent such abuse from happening again, or if and when it does, to immediately mitigate it,” said the first lady.
The Trumps are known for their admiration of the Royals in the UK, and according to body language expert Judi James, Melania may actually be taking cues from Her Majesty herself. The first lady may have been taking inspiration from the Queen when it comes to speaking or delivering speeches at engagements.
“It would be easy to imagine that Melania might have used her as a role model in terms of successful, high-status leadership, as she performed her own versions of ‘The Queen’s Speech,’” said James.
