Before Melania Trump is known as the First Lady of the United States, she was known for her work as a fashion model. But now with her elevated public presence as the nation’s First Lady, many have wondered why she has not graced the covers of magazines yet.
The debate began, as Politicalflare reports, when actor James Woods tweeted a photo of the First Lady, saying “If you need any proof of the shameless bias of the liberal mainstream media, the most stunning First Lady in American History has never graced our nation’s major style magazine covers.” Many agreed to Woods’ comments, and it has quickly drawn comparison to her predecessor Michelle Obama, while her husband Barack Obama was in office from 2009 to 2017.
Michelle was featured on 12 magazine covers during this time. She appeared on the cover of Vogue three times, twice on Essence magazine, twice for Glamour magazine and Time magazine, and one time for InStyle, Redbook, and Radar. The First Lady also tweeted photos of herself today and said that she is looking forward to the governor’s ball that the White House will be hosting. “Looking forward to hosting members of the governors and their spouses at the White House Governor’s Ball tomorrow night. It is an annual tradition to come together for a bipartisan gala to strengthen the friendships between states and their leaders” said Melania.
As to why Melania has not graced the cover of Vogue, it is because editor-in-chief Anna Wintour refuses to feature her. Regarding this comment, Stephanie Grisham, the White House press secretary, said on Fox News that Melania has more important matters to attend to than to fret about not being featured on Vogue. Grisham then went on to say that Wintour is “insecure and small-minded.”
One of those matters is that Melania will now be actively campaigning for her husband for the 2020 elections. The Daily Mail reports that the First Lady will be playing hostess to two fundraising events in March, in the Mar-a-Lago resort and in Beverly Hills respectively. The funds gathered from these events will support both the Trump electoral campaign and the Republican Party.
