Donald Trump is infamous for making snide remarks about a woman’s physical appearance, and it seems that even his wife, first lady Melania Trump is no exception. Trump’s comments in an old interview have resurfaced, revealing what he called Melania when she was pregnant.
In 2005, Melania was pregnant with their only son, Barron Trump, the youngest of Trump’s children. Donald Trump appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show in December of that year, and the couple had only been married for nearly a year when he made a snide remark about the then-future first lady’s changing appearance. Trump described Melania as a “blimp -- in the right places. I mean, she really has become a monster -- in all the right places.”
Trump then asked Stern about pregnant women. “You know, they just blow up, right?”
Their marriage has been heavily scrutinized since moving into the White House. Their marriage was scrutinized even more so as of late following a memoir by Melania’s former friend and adviser Stephanie Winston Wolkoff. Wolkoff revealed that the first lady and the president have a “transactional” marriage in that they only used each other to further their own careers. The White House has since dismissed Wolkoff’s claims in the book as false.
“I do believe it is a transactional marriage. Donald got arm candy, the Vogue cover legitimized Melania which legitimized Donald as well, and Melania got two dynamic decades,” revealed Wolkoff.
Meanwhile, Melania is currently remaining in the White House to recover from COVID-19, after testing positive a week ago. The first lady previously released a video talking about the importance of ending the stigma towards people who have suffered from substance abuse. However, the video comes a few days after her husband attacked Hunter Biden’s experience with drug addiction, as did his son Donald Trump Jr. who described Joe Biden’s son as “crackhead.” This brought on a wave of backlash from many. Some users pointed out the unusual angle Melania was taking to deliver her remarks on preventing drug addiction as well.
“Her husband and step son have spent the last two days mocking the child of their political opponent for his difficulties with addiction,” tweeted Sam Stein.
“One of the most important efforts to fight addiction and substance abuse is ending attacks on addicts and destroying stigmas for getting help. This includes attacks Donald Trump made when he called Joe Biden’s son a “crackhead” and mocked his previous cocaine use,” tweeted another user, Travis Akers.
