News regarding “Mindhunter” Season 2 is scarce at the moment as Netflix has yet to break their silence about the second installment. The only thing that the video-streaming giant has confirmed is that the series will be returning and filming for it has already wrapped up.
This has also been confirmed by cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt who took to Instagram to announce the news. “I cannot think of a professional experience in my life more significant than #Mindhunter Season 2. It’s been wonderful to collaborate with 3 incredible directors, a beautiful cast, and the strongest crew of my career,” Messerschmidt captioned the post.
While the plot of “Mindhunter” Season 2 hasn’t been revealed yet, the previous statement of executive producer David Fincher provides a concrete clue what this will be. According to a 2017 Billboard interview, Fincher said that the next entry will be dealing with a prolific murderer who operated in the city of Atlanta, RadioTimes reported.
The serial killer in question is one Wayne Williams who has been convicted of murdering two men and is thought to be responsible for 23 of the 29 murders that occurred between 1979-1981. The victims of Williams ranged from children, teens, to adults. “Mindhunter” Season 2 is also speculated to add Charles Manson into its ensemble with the killer played by Damon Herriman.
Interestingly enough, Herriman has also been cast as Manson in Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” While Williams and Herriman will be a great addition to the series, some fans are hoping that Netflix will bring back Ed Kemper (Cameron Britton) in “Mindhunter” Season 2, Inverse reported.
Britton himself is also remaining mum about his character’s future and whether or not he’ll be returning in the second installment. The actor’s portrayal of Kemper has been nothing short of brilliant and has landed him an Emmy nomination for his role. Regarding the release date of “Mindhunter” Season 2, Netflix hasn’t provided any information about this front. But given that filming for it is already finished, fans should expect it to come out soon, perhaps on the second or third quarter of 2019.
