The Moto E5 smartphone from Motorola is already considered one of the cheapest devices available, and it got even cheaper with the Moto E5 Play. However, it seems the company wasn’t satisfied with how budget-friendly the phone already was. It recently announced the Moto E5 Play Android Go Edition, which is a significantly cheaper and substantially downgraded variant.
As Android Headlines notes, it was only back in April when Motorola introduced the Moto E5 Play in addition to the Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus. It seems the company has decided to target a demographic much lower on the budget scale this time with its Moto E5 Play Android Go Edition. While it does come with a cheaper price, this comes with the cost of lower specs.
In terms of general design, the significantly cheaper version of the Moto E5 is identical to its more expensive cousins except for a few minor differences. It comes with a single camera in the rear, noticeably thick bezels, and a 5.34-inch display.
Under the hood, the difference between the Android Go and the regular Moto E5 editions become clearer. The former comes with a Snapdragon 425 64-bit quad-core SoC chipset, which is arguably a weaker processor than most smartphones users would be accustomed to these days. It also sports only 1GB of RAM, which makes this smartphone quite the slow puppy.
On the other hand, it does come with 16GB of expandable memory and it also comes with a fingerprint scanner, GSMArena points out. Retailing at roughly $130 USD, one can’t argue that this is a budget phone. Considering just how little modern users would actually get out of this device, it’s safe to say that this particular Moto E5 variant can act more as a backup phone than anything else. It certainly can’t function as an everyday device.
