Motorola’s new version of Moto G Stylus arrived earlier than its predecessor did last year with a number of timely upgrades. For one, the brand promises that the new phone is packed with an improved battery that could power the device for up to two days.
The 2022 Moto G Stylus was unveiled through a press release on Thursday, revealing the list of upgrades and technical specifications changed from last year’s device. The new phone still sports a 6.8-inch IPS LCD, but Motorola notes that it now supports up to 90Hz refresh rate, which has become a more common feature in mid-range phones in the last year. Its battery is still rated with 5000mAh capacity -- similar to the 2021 model --, but the company says the new phone can be used for up to two days on a single charge.
Moto G Stylus now has a 50MP main camera, another improvement from the 2021 device’s 48MP primary sensor. Its rear-facing cameras also include an 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP “Macro Vision” lens. Motorola also noted that the phone’s cameras use the Quad Pixel technology that allows it to capture images with four times low-light sensitivity and improved brightness and sharpness. For selfies, the phone is equipped with a 16MP camera on the front.
Unlike its predecessor, though, the 2022 Moto G Stylus might only be released in one configuration. Motorola only mentioned 6GB RAM and 128GB storage in the official announcement post, with a slot for a microSD card that can support up to 512GB external storage.
There were some key details not specified in the press release, though. Motorola only mentioned that the 2022 Moto G Stylus runs on a “pure version of Android OS” and is powered by an octa-core processor. But the details listed on GSMArena indicate that the new phone will have the Android 11 OS off the box and will use a 12nm MediaTek Helio G88 processor, effectively ditching Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6-series chipset.
Lastly, as the phone’s name suggests, it is one of the few cheaper phones that come with a built-in stylus. “Enjoy pinpoint control with the built-in stylus that lets you jot notes, edit photos, sketch artwork, copy and paste text, mark up screenshots, you name it,” Motorola said. “The stylus is seamlessly integrated with the Moto Note app too, so you can start writing without even unlocking your phone.”
Motorola fans can now pre-order the unlocked version of the 2022 Moto G Stylus from Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and Motorola.com for $299.99. The device will arrive in stores on Thursday, Feb. 17 but customers can also wait for the version with Consumer Cellular’s line “in the coming months.”
