NEW YORK, June 09, 2017 -- At the end of the settlement date of May 31, 2017, short interest in 2,330 Nasdaq Global MarketSM securities totaled 7,552,184,024 shares compared with 7,420,291,077 shares in 2,326 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of May 15, 2017. The end-of-May short interest represents 4.45 days average daily Nasdaq Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 4.42 days for the prior reporting period.
Short interest in 809 securities on The Nasdaq Capital MarketSM totaled 835,901,442 shares at the end of the settlement date of May 31, 2017 compared with 813,368,216 shares in 816 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 3.20 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period’s figure of 2.96.
In summary, short interest in all 3,139 Nasdaq® securities totaled 8,388,085,466 shares at the May 31, 2017 settlement date, compared with 3,142 issues and 8,233,659,293 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 4.29 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 4.22 days for the previous reporting period.
