Nestlé revealed its plans to launch the plant-based version of its Toll House chocolate chip morsels. The Swiss food and beverage manufacturing company said that its vegan choco chips would come with more innovative ingredients compared to its dairy-free chocolate morsels, which it released in 2018.
Nestlé said that it may introduce its plant-based Toll House choco morsels in the first quarter of 2023. Customers may find them in stores along with other vegan products that it is planning to release, including foie gras and eggs. These new products are set to change the company’s portfolio and could be another way to appeal to the younger generation of consumers.
“Nestlé Toll House plant-based morsels will be a brand-new product within the Toll House portfolio,” the company said in a statement. “As we continue to look to innovate in the plant-based category, baking is an area we’re excited to explore.”
Melissa Cash, Nestlé USA’s chief strategy officer, further said about its upcoming Toll House product, “Plant-based, especially for those that are trying to avoid dairy, can be one of those places where you feel like you have to compromise. You think about chocolate chips and indulgence - that is a place that you do not want to compromise so we are looking to innovate in that plant-based space to really push out plant-based morsels.”
AXIOS reported that the release of these new products to the market really matters because many people, especially the younger generations, are becoming vegans. In fact, sales of plant-based meat are growing and slowly being added to menu lists in restaurants and fast-food chains.
In Europe, Nestlé has already set up its Garden Gourmet brand to offer plant-based products such as chicken, burgers, schnitzel, chorizo, and more. In the last week of November, the company also debuted its vegan foie gras under the “Voie Gras” brand.
This product was developed in just six months with about 300 plant-based food innovators at Nestlé Research Center in Lausanne working together for it. It is said to have the same nutritional value compared to the animal-derived version.
This plant-based foie gras was made from vegetable ingredients and flavored with sea salt, truffle oil, and miso paste. Finally, VegNews mentioned that Nestlé is also aiming to produce plant-based eggs.
