It appears that Amazon Games wants to make sure that all aspects of “New World” are tested before it officially launches next month. The developer confirmed that it will conduct an open beta test in September weeks ahead of the game’s release.
‘New World’ open beta details
Amazon saw a successful two-week closed beta test for “New World” that commenced last July. In that period, the game was played by more than 200,000 concurrent players at one point, which shows just how much hype has been built around the upcoming MMORPG.
While the closed beta already seemed extensive and covered many aspects of the game, Amazon is still hosting an open beta before “New World” launches. The open beta will start on Thursday, Sept. 9.
In a new blog post, Amazon said the “New World” open beta will be using Steam’s Playtest feature. That means anyone with a Steam account and PC that can handle the game can participate, even without pre-purchasing the game. However, the open beta will be supported in select regions only, including North America, Europe, Australia, and South America.
Interesting PC gamers will still have to request access to the “New World” open beta starting on Wednesday, Sept. 8, at 7 a.m. PT. The open beta will go live on Sept. 9, at 7 a.m. PT through Sunday, Sept. 12, at 11:59 PT.
Like in the closed beta, Amazon will allow participants to stream or record their “New World” plays. “However, aspects of New World may change between Open Beta and launch, which may cause captured footage to become outdated,” Amazon warned.
One thing that will change in the open beta is that Amazon will increase its server capacity. But the developer noted that it will still not represent the “full server capacity” it has planned for the actual release of “New World.”
‘New World’ release date
It is understandable if fans are not completely convinced of “New World’s” current release date after Amazon had changed it four times in the past. However, the launch of open beta next month seems like a good sign that the game will be ready to launch on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
