Ubisoft announced this week that “Ghost Recon Breakpoint” will no longer receive future updates as the game’s active development ends more than two years after it was released. Now, a new report says the company has been working on the next “Ghost Recon” installment for a while now.
To recap, several games reportedly in development by various Ubisoft studios were part of the massive Nvidia GeForce Now leak last year. One of these projects was identified as “OVER,” being developed by Ubisoft Paris. Kotaku now reports that “OVER” is going to be the next “Ghost Recon” game and that it has been in development for more than a year.
The same report suggests the next “Ghost Recon” title could have been announced last year as part of the franchise’s 20th anniversary. However, as most fans know, Ubisoft went in a different direction and announced another free-to-play shooter game called “Ghost Recon Frontline.”
It can be recalled that the announcement of “Ghost Recon Frontline” last October saw a lukewarm response from fans of the series. Less than two weeks later, Ubisoft announced the postponement of the game’s closed test. The same report noted that the upcoming live-service game is “undergoing a reset” and that its release is not imminent.
The report on the new “Ghost Recon” comes shortly after Ubisoft announced it is ending its support for “Ghost Recon Breakpoint.” That makes “Operation Motherland” the last major update for the game. “We will continue to maintain our servers for both ‘Ghost Recon Wildlands’ and ‘Ghost Recon Breakpoint’ and we truly hope you will continue to enjoy the game and have fun playing in solo or co-op with your friends,” Ubisoft said on Wednesday.
The next “Ghost Recon” is not the only unannounced Ubisoft project to appear in a report this week. Tom Henderson reported on eXputer that the company is also working on a new third-person shooter game called “Pathfinder.” Henderson, who was shown images and videos of the game, compared the game to “Hyper Scape,” which Ubisoft will retire later this month. Kotaku’s source confirmed the existence of “Pathfinder” but said its release is still uncertain.
