Nintendo has stated that it will officially introduce the Switch replacement system "within this fiscal year" before March 31, 2025.
Upcoming Nintendo Direct Focuses on Current Switch Games
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa revealed the new system in a statement published on X/Twitter when Nintendo released its annual year-end report for March 31, 2024. Furukawa also announced a Nintendo Direct for June but claimed there would be no hint of the Switch replacement during the presentation. Instead, Nintendo will concentrate on Switch games during the latter part of 2024.
The wording suggests fans must wait until at least July for a first glimpse at Nintendo's next-gen console, dubbed Switch 2 by many. Here's Furukawa's statement in full:
“This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.”
Future of Gaming: The Next-Gen Switch Details
As per February reports, the Switch 2 will not be ready until early 2025. According to Bloomberg (via IGN), Nintendo informed publishers that the Switch 2 was initially scheduled for delivery at the end of 2024 but would now be delayed until "March 2025 at the earliest."
"We will make an announcement on the successor to the Nintendo Switch during this fiscal year."
The recently reported information about the Switch 2's power was not the first rumor about Nintendo's upcoming system. Other leaked details hint that the device will include magnetic Joy-Cons and may even allow gamers to use their previous controllers. According to recent speculations, the Switch 2 will support both hard and digital games.
