Nintendo’s next generation console has been highly teased, with details from the company being as sparse as the appearance of rare “Pokemons” on “Pokemon Go.” However, Eurogamer has compiled some information from numerous sources that provide fans with an idea of what to expect. The good news is that codename “NX” will be different from the “Wii U.” Unfortunately, it isn’t likely to be that powerful.
With the “NX” being Nintendo’s latest offering to the video game market, it’s only natural that gamers would expect as much or more juice than the “PlayStation 4” or “Xbox One.” Based on the reports that Eurogamer gathered, it doesn’t look like this is the case. This doesn’t mean that it won’t be worth getting, however, since it does have some revolutionary features.
As Time notes, the “NX” will offer portable features, where players can transition from fixed home console gaming to mobile gaming. This managed to capture the interest of even Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, saying that it could potentially bring back casual players into the fold after losing them to mobile titles.
Specifically, the unit will feature a separate screen for the two, button-based controllers that will dock on either side of the console. This means that two players will be able to use the controllers, although whether they will only be able to play one game or separate games, is not known at the moment.
With the detachable nature of the console, it’s worth noting that the “NX” will necessarily be battery-powered. As Polygon pointed out, this will come with issues involving performance because batteries will not be able to compete with the output that direct plug-ins to wall sockets can provide.
More than that, the chipset that the “NX” will use is the “Nvidia Tegra X1,” which debuted in 2015 and was promised to deliver performance like that of the “PS3” or “Xbox 360.” Considering the workhorses that are the “PS4” and “Xbox One,” and the upcoming more advanced versions, the “Neo” And “Scorpio,” the “NX” will have a hard time being competitive.
