Nokia Corporation, a Finnish telecommunications, information technology, and consumer electronics company, is changing its world-recognizable logo. The company said it is making this move because it has been shifting its business, but most people think it is still focused on making mobile phone units.
Nokia further said that changing its logo is also a signal for the public to be aware of its strategic shift. The company, under the leadership of its current chief executive, Pekka Lundmark, is aiming for growth via its enterprise and network businesses. Thus, it expects the logo change to make people realize that Nokia is no longer just a phone brand.
As per Reuters, Nokia revealed its plans for its business strategy, starting with the redesigning of its logo announced on Sunday, Feb. 26. It was noted that this is the first time that the company is changing its brand identity since being in the business for almost 60 years.
With its new logo and brand designs, the telecom equipment manufacturer will move its focus on its thriving units for an aggressive growth strategy. At any rate, the new Nokia logo still has the word “NOKIA”, but the letters are presented in five different shapes. For the color, the well-known blue shade was dropped and replaced with various colors depending on the use.
“In most people’s minds, we are still a successful mobile phone brand, but this is not what Nokia is about,” Bloomberg quoted CEO Pekka Lundmark as saying in an interview before he attended the Mobile World Congress (MWC) that was held in Barcelona, Spain on Sunday.
The chief added, “There was the association to smartphones and nowadays we are a business technology company and we want to launch a new brand that is focusing very much on the networks and industrial digitalization, which is a completely different thing from the legacy mobile phones.”
