“Outlander” Season 4 has been making a lot of character development lately and its latest one featured Lord John Grey (David Berry). The previous episode saw the English soldier exchanging heated words with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) even though the former was fighting off a bad case of measles.
At one point, the two spat over their feelings about Jamie (Sam Heughan). And since John wasn’t right in the head due to his illness, he went overboard and told Claire that Jamie once offered his body to the soldier. In exchange, John would take in William (Oliver Finnegan). The diplomat revealed that he agreed to be William’s guardian but refused Jamie’s offer even though John is madly in love with Claire’s husband. The dialogue between the two is some of the most well-executed scenes in “Outlander” Season 4 so far.
Even the sequences where they don’t have to say anything speaks volume as to how both characters feel. The next morning, John’s illness finally broke and the soldier came to an understanding with Claire. As John and William left, the young boy took one final glance at Jamie, which seemed to imply that the boy has a strong inclination that Jamie is, in fact, his father. The episode ended with Jamie and Claire being intimate with each other and the fact that it didn’t return to Brianna (Sophie Skelton) suggests the next release of “Outlander” Season 4 will pick up where the young woman left off.
Right now, the show is setting up for one of the most harrowing scenes that audiences will go through as Brianna is expected to suffer at the hands of Bonnet (Ed Speelers). In the books, the pirate sexually assaulted the young Fraser although it’s still unclear whether this ordeal will make it on the show. The next episode is titled “Down the Rabbit Hole” and is a clear sign that Brianna will be traveling back in time when the series returns on Dec. 16.
