Launch details about “Overwatch 2” are still unknown, but fans might be a step closer to seeing the game in action. Blizzard Entertainment announced it is opening a closed PvP beta program next month, where lucky players get to see the new hero Sojourn and experience the new game mode Push.

Blizzard released a new developer update video on Thursday, “Overwatch 2” game director Aaron Keller announced some changes in their approach to the game’s development. In an accompanying blog post, the studio provided details about the PvP beta that will kick off in late April.

There will be substantial game content available to beta testers, including the hero Sojourn. “Overwatch 2” will be the first time Sojourn launches as a playable character. But the hero has been part of the “Overwatch” lore for a while now as she appeared in previous events and animated shorts.

Hero reworks are also some of the key features Blizzard has been teasing for “Overwatch 2.” And Blizzard confirmed the rework of Orisa, Doomfist, Bastion, and Sombra will be featured in the PvP beta as well.

Aside from the 5v5 gameplay, Blizzard will also let testers try the new game mode Push launching in “Overwatch 2.” In Push, one of the main goals is to control a robot that would push the opponent’s barricade. The team that gets to push the enemy’s barricade all the way to the end wins. But if time runs out before that happens, the team with the most distance wins.

The new Ping system in “Overwatch 2” will be available in the PvP beta next month. Players who will be invited to participate will also play four new maps, including Circuit Royal, Midtown, New Queen Street, and Colosseo.

Blizzard also discussed a significant change in the development strategy for “Overwatch 2.” Fans may have noticed that the upcoming beta tests only mention PvP gameplay. “We are changing our release strategy by decoupling Overwatch 2’s PvP and PvE experiences from one another to get new PvP content into your hands sooner, while we continue to work on PvE,” Blizzard said.

Fans can now register for a chance to be invited to the PvP beta next month. Note that it will be available on PC and in select regions only.
