In collaboration with WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart, global sports brand PUMA unveiled the "Stewie 3" today in Paris, France. The release heralds a new chapter in athletic footwear inspired by a rich tapestry of personal and professional influences.
A Shoe Story of Triumph and Tribute
According to a press release, the Stewie 3 Dawn, the third signature shoe designed with PUMA for Stewart, features fiery hues and floral details, each telling a part of Stewart's illustrious career and personal life. The design draws from Stewart's accomplishments and the landscapes of her life—incorporating elements from Tokyo's cherry blossoms, Rio's golden trumpet trees, and Spain's red carnation blooms.
Tokyo's cherry blossoms symbolize the transient beauty of life and nature's resilience, serving as a nod to the city's influence on Stewart's career. The golden trumpet trees of Rio reflect the athlete's victories, mirrored in the shoe's golden accents reminiscent of an Olympian's gold medal. Deepening the shoe's narrative is the homage to Spain with the red carnation, a tribute to Stewart's spouse, Marta.
Sports Illustrated noted that one of the most distinctive features of the Stewie 3 is the original blooming seed patterns on the outsole. This design element pays tribute to Stewart's daughter, Ruby, and her desire to see the game of basketball grow.
Engineered for Excellence
"It's an honor to incorporate parts of my story into the Stewie 3: the people I love and the places that have been crucial to my journey," Stewart shared during the Paris unveiling. The Stewie 3 Dawn isn't just a testament to Stewart's career; it's engineered for peak performance. It features a high-abrasion outsole for superior grip and a dual-density Profoam+ midsole for enhanced cushioning and energy return.
Availability and Launch
Set to launch on May 14th, 2024, the PUMA Stewie 3 collection will range from $40-125. The collection will be available at PUMA.com, the PUMA mobile app, and the PUMA NYC Flagship store, making it an accessible MVP-worthy addition to any athlete's arsenal.
