PepsiCo has replaced Sierra Mist with the new lemon-lime flavored Starry, which it described as a "crisp, clear, refreshing" new caffeine-free soda made "for a generation of irreverent optimists."
According to Greg Lyons, chief marketing officer at PepsiCo Beverages North America, they are hoping to hook consumers with a beverage that is "rooted in culture and fun,".
Starry is now available in Regular and Zero Sugar versions across US retailers and food service outlets.
PepsiCo said that with the lemon-lime soda category "accelerating since 2019" they now have a significant opportunity to give people a choice in an area dominated by one brand for years, referring to Coca-Cola’s Sprite.
Danielle Barbaro, VP of research and development at PepsiCo, claimed that Starry has "a game-changing recipe with the perfect balance of lemon-lime flavor and sweetness compared to the competition.
Pepsico has also hinted a month before Super Bowl LVII that consumers can expect to see "a national TV commercial" with "360 digital and social content and large-scale sports, culture, and entertainment partnerships."
