Peruvian shamans gathered on a beach in southern Lima for their annual New Year’s ritual, an event that draws attention each year for its bold political predictions and spiritual symbolism. Wearing colorful ponchos, burning incense, and sprinkling flowers on the sand, the shamans performed ancient Andean ceremonies as they forecast major global and regional events for the year ahead.
One of the most striking predictions targeted U.S. President Donald Trump. Juan de Dios Garcia, one of the participating shamans, warned that the United States should prepare for serious developments, claiming that Trump would suffer from a severe illness. The ritual involved large posters of world leaders, including Trump, which were waved, crossed with swords, stomped on, and cleansed with incense as part of the symbolic rites.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro was also at the center of the shamans’ forecasts. According to Garcia, Maduro’s rule is nearing its end, and he will be defeated politically before fleeing Venezuela. The shaman emphasized that Maduro would not be captured, suggesting a dramatic but unresolved conclusion to his leadership.
The ceremony also focused on other prominent global figures. Posters of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy were displayed as the shamans predicted broader geopolitical changes. Notably, they once again foresaw the end of the Russia-Ukraine war, claiming that peace would prevail and the conflict would conclude with a symbolic raising of the flag of peace. Similar predictions were made during the 2023 ritual, reflecting ongoing hopes for resolution.
On the domestic front, the shamans turned their attention to Peru’s political future. Garcia predicted that Keiko Fujimori, daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, would finally achieve victory in Peru’s 2026 presidential election after three unsuccessful attempts. He said this vision came through the use of wachuma, an ancestral plant traditionally used in spiritual practices.
The annual ritual, performed every late December, blends tradition, mysticism, and political commentary, continuing to capture public and media interest worldwide.
