Pharrell and adidas Reveal the Bold Superstar 'Double Wide,' Inspired by 90s Skate and Snowboarding Trends
In a recent report by Sneaker News, Pharrell and adidas unveiled their latest collaborative endeavor at Paris Fashion Week, demonstrating their unparalleled reliability as collaborators.
The adidas Superstar 92, also known as the "Double Wide," is a dramatic reimagining of the original Superstar, drawing inspiration from hefty 90s skate shoes and snowboarding boots. The detailed images posted by Complex highlight thick padding, a plump tongue, oversized stripes, and, most significantly, a re-tooled shell toe. The quarter and blue laces feature distinct "Superstar" typography, and the shoe debuts online in its conventional black-and-white color scheme.
adidas has been releasing distinctive overhauls at an unprecedented rate, whether through Pharrell or other A-list collaborators such as Clot. This latest preview, which follows the recent release of the Clot x adidas Dress Superstar, is a prime example of adidas' ongoing commitment to unconventional design choices. However, this does not imply that well-documented fashion trends do not influence Superstar 92. Leaning fully into the 90s skate aesthetics is a safe strategy, as evidenced by the success of the adidas Campus 00s.
The Pharrell x adidas Superstar 92 has yet to be released; however, our Sneaker Release Dates page will remain up-to-date with the most recent information. Meanwhile, peruse the accompanying images to observe the shoes in greater detail.
Adidas Unveils Donovan Mitchell's D.O.N. Issue #6, Emphasizing Performance and Comfort
On July 1, adidas will introduce Donovan Mitchell's sixth signature footwear, priced at $120, per Sports Illustrated.
The NBA season of 2023-24 has concluded; however, the offseason is the time for the substance of the work. Donovan Mitchell, the guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers and adidas Basketball, unveiled the adidas D.O.N. Issue #6 on June 18.
Mitchell's sixth signature basketball shoe with adidas is the performance model. Fans will remember the initial game of the 2024 NBA Playoffs as the occasion on which Mitchell debuted the unreleased footwear. Subsequently, he introduced a pink colorway that was particularly poignant for Mother's Day.
According to the brand, the adidas D.O.N. Issue #6 embodies Mitchell's "Determination Over Negativity" and encourages neglected athletes to believe in their abilities.
The new silhouette is designed to provide lightweight comfort and enhanced security while providing the necessary cushioning for explosive on-court moments. This represents a significant advancement.
The D.O.N. Issue #6 offers improved efficacy by incorporating innovative features, such as:
- Explosiveness: The forefoot is designed with zoned energy return and cushioning to withstand an eruption, and it includes Lightstrike Pro (forefoot) and Lightstrike (heel) features.
- Lockdown: A midfoot harness enhances lockdown in the midfoot, ensuring security during incisions in all directions.
- Comfort: Breathable mesh and an anatomically fitted upper to minimize abrasion and distractions.
Starting July 1, 2024, at 10 a.m. ET, the adidas D.O.N. Issue #6 will be available in various colorways on adidas.com and at select adidas stores and retailers. The retail price is $120.
