Prada is finalizing an agreement to acquire Versace from Capri Holdings for approximately €1.5 billion ($1.6 billion). This acquisition would unite two of Italy's most iconic luxury fashion brands, bringing Versace back under Italian ownership. The negotiations have progressed steadily, with the deal expected to be concluded within weeks.
Capri Holdings, which also owns brands like Michael Kors and Jimmy Choo, purchased Versace in 2018 for about €1.85 billion, including debt. However, Versace has faced challenges recently, reporting a 15% decline in revenues in fiscal 2025. This downturn prompted Capri Holdings to explore strategic alternatives, leading to the current negotiations with Prada.
For Prada, acquiring Versace represents a strategic expansion, potentially bringing Versace's bold and glamorous aesthetic under its umbrella. Prada has demonstrated financial resilience, with its Miu Miu brand experiencing significant growth, particularly among younger consumers. This acquisition could enhance Prada's position in the global luxury market, allowing it to compete more effectively with conglomerates like LVMH and Kering.
The fashion industry is closely monitoring these developments, anticipating the potential synergies and innovations that could arise from this landmark deal. The integration of Versace into Prada's portfolio may lead to a dynamic fusion of styles, appealing to a broader range of luxury consumers.
As discussions progress, stakeholders await official confirmation and further details regarding the future direction of both brands under this prospective partnership.
