There is still more than a month left in 2021, but the tech rumor mill is already filled with reports about the features and upgrades likely included in upcoming smartphones in early 2022. The Redmi K50 is one of the Android smartphone series expected to launch soon, and fans of the brand might already know the first details of its technical specifications.
The latest leak with the alleged Redmi K50 specs comes from the well-known Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station (via Gizmochina). The device will reportedly ship a 108MP main camera. It is unclear, though, if this is going to be featured in all devices in the series.
If the leak were true, it would not be the first time that a Redmi device has a 108MP camera. It can be recalled that the Redmi K40 Pro+ launched last February with a similar main camera resolution. However, the standard K40 had a 48MP camera, while the K40 Pro had 64MP. Considering that 108MP sensors are, so far, the highest camera resolution offered in consumer smartphones, it could remain an exclusive feature on the Redmi K50 Pro+.
The same leaker noted that the Redmi K50 would be powered by a Snapdragon 8-series chip. This should not be entirely surprising because the Redmi K40 devices were all shipped with Snapdragon 888. But this should be a nice assurance to fans of the Qualcomm flagship SoC, especially with the ongoing chips shortage and more brands are using MediaTek-made chipsets. Since the Redmi K50 lineup is anticipated to enter the market in early 2022, it is very likely one of the early smartphone lines to use the yet-to-be-announced Snapdragon 898.
Digital Chat Station also claimed that the Redmi K50 would support 67W fast charging. This would be double the capacity offered in K40 devices, which all shipped with 33W fast charging capability.
Unfortunately, the leak did not include any information about the Redmi K50 release window. But the Redmi brand was able to deliver its first flagship series in February, suggesting that the company might be able to launch the upcoming phones in early 2022.
