Ronn Torossian, a NYC based entrepreneur for a company's promotional messaging to be effective and reach the right people, it needs to do a lot of work and preparation before launching a promotional campaign. All of the work that's put into a campaign before it starts can help businesses achieve success, learn more about their target audience, and improve and refine any future promotional campaigns in order to make them more effective.
Target Audience
No two audiences are going to be the same, which means companies have to do a lot of research going into a promotional campaign in order to learn about the people they want to target. Businesses need to know the values, interests, and pain points of their consumers, and segment their target audience according to that information. This strategy makes it easier for companies to reach the right consumers, at the right time, and in the right location. It also informs the entirety of a PR campaign overall.
Research
When it comes to research, there are no substitutes for the work that's necessary to create a successful PR campaign. Research is an essential element of PR because it allows companies to be more strategic with their campaigns. With the help of research, companies can ensure that all promotional messages are specifically targeted to the right audiences; audiences that are already looking for the solutions that companies provide. That way, when consumers are ready to make a purchase, they'll already be familiar with a company's solutions because the promotional messages were informative and delivered to them at the right point in their buying journey. That strategy will make them more likely to purchase a product or a service from the company that's created an effective PR campaign due to researching beforehand.
Planning and Organization
Torossian says effective PR campaigns can only be achieved through planning and organizing sustainable activities. That means companies need to have a PR calendar where they can schedule all of their outreach activities and tactics. They also need to generate a contact list of journalists, media outlets, influencers, bloggers, like-minded businesses, and customers that they can collaborate with on campaigns. This planning and organization process is essential to successful PR campaigns because it ensures keeping good track of what PR strategy is in use.
Journalism in Mind
A company's press release needs to be to the point, but also interesting, and include some insightful quotes or information. Businesses should also include a brief history of the company in their press releases, as well as their contact information in case a journalist needs to reach out with additional questions. The goal of a press release is to intrigue the right journalists with a topic or a piece of information that will grab both their and that of their audiences. That's why when creating a press release, companies need to have the basics of journalism in mind. They need to implement these basics to create story angles that are truly newsworthy, and that therefore increase their chances of being featured in outlets.
