SK Telecom Co. will utilize quantum technology in developing a gas facility safety system in its partnership with Korea Gas Safety Corp.
The two entities will also collaborate with local optical sensor company QuantumSensing and gas safety company Korea Plant Maintenance in incorporating quantum-based technology to safety management systems at gas facilities.
Quantum technology helps detect gas leaks and their concentration at facilities by analyzing light wavelengths reflected from buildings.
SK Telecom claims it is more accurate than the infrared ray-based system.
The companies will test the technology at a gas facility by the year's end, and drones may be added to allow testing at dangerous sites.
Among quantum technologies that SK Telecom has showcased are a single photon LiDAR sensor for autonomous vehicles and a quantum-safe cryptography solution for Samsung smartphones.
