Paris, France, June 9, 2016 -- For its brand new iTranslate app, with currently over 5 million users monthly, Sonico chose SYSTRAN technology to offer translation features to all travellers.
According to a new survey of 28,000 EU citizens, 9 out of 10 Europeans who travel outside their home country limit their use of mobile services because of roaming charges. To address this issue, Sonico partnered with SYSTRAN to offer a fully offline translation solution.
SYSTRAN's solution is based on embedded machine translation technology, which offers translation, dictionary lookup and conjugation checker without any Internet connection. SYSTRAN's engineers and researchers developed innovative techniques based on machine learning that allow huge volumes of data to be compressed while maintaining the same level of translation quality and accuracy.
"This application is part of our strategy to bring machine translation components in line with new platforms and uses" explains Jean Senellart, CEO of SYSTRAN. "As the first free online translation service, we evolved with the Internet, server platforms, big data, the cloud and smartphones and we are now exploring new areas of machine learning research such as Deep Learning to exceed machine capacity and better serve human needs."
These translation components are available to developers through a Linguistic Development Kit (LDK), constantly updated by SYSTRAN's R&D engineers and that give access to extended features of normalization, morphological and syntactic analysis, categorization and to all the components required to build a natural language based solution.
Alexander Marktl, CEO of iTranslate, concludes: "With SYSTRAN, we found a partner who meets our expectations in terms of agility, reactivity, scalability and offering the most comprehensive functional coverage. We are very excited to combine SYSTRAN language technologies with our ability to create simple user experiences and can't wait to show what other innovations we are already working on for upcoming releases."
