Samsung, LG Display, and SK Hynix will all start vaccinating their workers next month. It was revealed that they will be using Moderna shots, and the inoculation is also part of the government’s efforts to bolster its COVID-19 vaccination drive nationwide.
In-house inoculation in major South Korean firms
As per The Korea Herald, Samsung Electronics revealed that it would begin administering Moderna vaccines to its workers. The health event has been scheduled to start on July 27 onwards, and it will take place in the company’s in-house clinics.
The information was shared by industry insiders on Sunday, June 27. It was added that the employees were already informed about the plan, so they are also preparing for it already.
Based on the report, the workers received the notice on Friday, June 25. It was announced that all employees aged 18 to 59 and working in Samsung Electronics’ plants and research facilities in the country are expected to show up on the scheduled vaccination day.
The workers from Samsung include those who are working in several locations - Suwon, Gumi, Gwangju, Hwaseong, and Giheung, were asked to get ready for the jabs. As for the employees who were dispatched from Samsung’s partner companies and affiliates, they are also eligible for the free Moderna vaccination.
Samsung subsidiaries such as Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Samsung Display are also included in the calls for the upcoming inoculation. For SK Hynix, it was mentioned that those working in factories in Cheongju and Icheon are set to receive their Moderna vaccine as well.
For LG Display, the same age group mentioned are all eligible, and the company will vaccinate workers in Gumi and Paju plants first. Hyundai and Kia are also set to start the vaccination of their workers soon, but it was not revealed yet when it would begin.
Moderna for big company workers
It was already reported previously that Moderna has been chosen to be used for employees in major companies in South Korea. This was confirmed in early June as the EconoTimes mentioned, the country’s Ministry of Employment and Labor has issued a guide for companies on how to distribute and schedule their workers for vaccination.
Since big firms have their own clinics, the inoculations will be done in their own facilities. In Samsung alone, 200,000 Moderna shots are expected to be delivered.
“Employees who want to get the Moderna shots were told to submit applications,” an insider said at that time.
