Scientific research of vape pens you didn't know before

It’s been a while since we learned that smoking is an unhealthy and hazardous habit. Searching for a statistic about its extremely devastating influence on health has never been easier. However, each day in the U.S., about 1,500 young individuals under the age of 18 will smoke their first cigarette, and nearly 200 of them will become daily smokers. There are effective nicotine dependence treatments, including both behavioral and approved medications. Still, the number of active smokers was going down very slowly until e-cigarettes came along.

Solution for some, a problem for others

Vaping was a thing from the start, new and interesting. Fashion and trend for many, a more natural way to quit smoking for some. In the beginning, it was convenient, unlike smoking, because vaping was not forbidden. The scientists and medical experts could not find anything suspicious to point at, as it was too early for conclusive data on its possible damage to health.

Meanwhile, vaping companies bloomed and with the development of the fourth generation of a vape pen, vaping mods, and pod systems, almost overnight became a massive industry. Even though manufacturers, as well as sellers, have to follow many regulations, experts such as Stanton Glantz, director of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education at the University of California, claim that actually “nobody knows what’s in any of these products.”

It is a critical moment in the history of vaping for consumers since they have to check the facts before using their favorite best vape pens as nowadays, things changed legislatively. For example, since 2019, San Francisco prohibited the sale and online distribution of e-cigarettes and e-liquids, within the city limits or to S.F. postcode. The reason for this decision is the continually increasing number of teenagers vaping. The last annual study reports that the number of teen e-cigarette users has doubled since 2017.

At the same time, in the U.K., the medical establishment is endorsing vaping as an efficient help to smoking cessation. According to the report issued by the institution in charge of guidelines on the U.K.’s health protection (Public Health England), vaping is 95% safer than smoking.

Understanding vaping: revealing or confusing?

Vaporizers are simple devices, easy to use, even for beginners. There are many ways to vape and many tools to vape with. Initially, they were used with nicotine-based liquid products, but as they progressed, cannabis, CBD, and other juices emerged. For most users, probably the best vape pen is the one utilized with different kinds of atomizers and with the option to use various types of substances.

Besides the fact that vaping is a subject of research for a short period, the fact that many vapers are also former nicotine users makes it difficult to establish the potential health problems caused by using vaporizers. However, there is a study that can shed some light on this topic as it tracked health markers on a group of vapers who had never used tobacco-based products.

It’s still not clear how and when vaping might cause lung problems or what are the real risks. Because of that, mainly, the FDA’s regulations on vaporizers are still developing, upgrading, and almost constantly changing. Among problematic issues recently connected with vaping are also exploding devices that are, according to the FDA, associated with “battery-related” problems. Another study revealed that the emergency facilities reported around 2000 burn injuries within two years.

Vaping can help smokers to quit, but some researchers could not find solid evidence that former smokers, now vapers, will quit at rates significantly bigger than smokers who did not vape. Only a few months later, another publication on the same subject, revealed the result of the research claiming that one in five users who switched to vaping had quit smoking entirely after six months.

While the FDA is still working on regulations, the CDC’s position is that “E-cigarettes have the potential to benefit adult smokers who are not pregnant if used as a complete substitute for regular cigarettes”.

For former smokers who are wondering what to think or consider puffing while waiting for certain proofs that vaping is more harmful than beneficial, caution is probably the best option. The most efficient way to protect yourself is to choose reputable manufacturers and sellers, and combine their vape pens with high-quality liquids.
