‘Scream’ season 2 episode 2 will find new tensions between Maggie and Emma after the latter revealed new disconcerting details about her past. Aubrey is caught in a cat-and-mouse game with the killer who knows her connection with Piper while Noah continues his search for the truth behind the murders.
The synopsis posted on International Business Times stated, “Tensions rise when Maggie reveals something about Emma's past; someone unexpected arrives in town; Noah investigates an unsettling new lead for his podcast.”
As Emma Duvall (Willa Fitzgerald) seeks to find some semblance of normalcy in her life, her mother Maggie’s (Tracy Middendorf) revelation is bound to strain the relationship between the two. Meanwhile, Audrey Jensen (Bex Taylor-Klaus) struggles with paranoia as she fears getting exposed of being contact with Piper Shaw (Amelia Rose Blair) long before she arrived in town.
Noah Foster (John Karna) also continues to investigate the murders and is getting closer to the truth behind Piper’s involvement since he finds out she got inside help while researching for her own podcast.
Season 2’s premiere revealed that a new killer has emerged to terrorize the survivors. The previous episode, entitled “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, found Jake Fitzgerald (Tom Maden) getting kidnapped and eventually killed with the use of a scythe. It proved that Jake was innocent of the murders.
Showrunners Michael Gans and Richard Register spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Jake’s unexpected death saying that they needed a “major reset” for the new season and it needed to begin with someone “meaningful”.
Register said, “Always for a serialized cast like this, with stories of several characters you keep coming back to, every season you want to have a major reset. We thought this would really reset our characters in a very impactful way.”
Gans added, “There’s a reason why the killer chooses him. There’s a reason why it was necessary to start with Jake. What it did to the group and how it plays out on the group is really the reason why. That happens quite beautifully.”
During another interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Gans admitted that they wanted to up the ante in the second season with a worse villain. He said, “A good sequel doesn't try to change things as much as it elevates and surprises you by taking things to a new level… We wanted to make sure that we accomplished that, to make our villain even bigger and badder and scarier.”
He added, “The killer this season is using the same mask. The kills are bigger and more theatrical this season. This killer has a need for presentation.”
‘Scream’ season 2, episode 2 is scheduled to air on MTV on June 6, 2016.
