“Sherlock” season 5 has yet to premiere even after over three years of hiatus. In fact, many are already starting to think that it was already axed because there is no information about what happened to it.
Renewed or canceled?
In any case, the detective drama is not yet renewed by BBC, although fans strongly believed that the TV network will not let it go just yet. This is because the show is doing well and has lots of followers to be abandoned by the station.
But, it is really true that the BBC network has not canceled “Sherlock” season 5 yet? This appeared to be correct because the bosses stated before that it is actually up to the show’s showrunners Mark Gattis and Steven Moffat, to decide if they will still continue the drama. Clearly, the decision is up to them if there will still be a fifth installment.
What Gattis and Moffat say
Gattis and Moffat admitted that they have yet to talk about “Sherlock” season 5 because they don’t have time for it yet due to their projects. They clarified though that despite no having plans for it yet, both of them are still interested in going for another season, perhaps even more seasons.
“I haven't really thought about it,” Moffat admitted in an interview with Digital Spy. “Mark has been doing other stuff as well, so we haven't sat down and had a proper talk about what we would do with another series."
Moffat also said in another interview that their interest in doing “Sherlock” season 5 is still strong. They were not just able to do it once because he and Gattis are occupied with other works. He said that it would also make them happy to give the fans what they want which is new episodes of “Sherlock.”
Finally, it turned out that the cast members of “Sherlock” season 5 are also busy with their own works. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have their movie projects and it is unsure when their schedules would be able to accommodate filming time for this drama.
“It was very, very, very difficult to schedule the fourth series concerning Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s availability, and everyone’s availability, so it’s not easy,” Gatiss revealed. “It’s not a lack of will, it’s just about practicality.”
