BBC has yet to order “Sherlock” season 5 but almost everyone attached to the production says they will be happy to continue working on the series. “The Walking Dead” season 9 star Eleanor Matsuura is the latest actor to declare she would like to return if she ever gets the call.
Matsuura was introduced in the premiere episode of the fourth season as Detective Inspector Stella Hopkins and only appeared on a single episode. She only was shown in a video call with Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) and in a brief stint outside the Baker Street apartment. And when asked if she is willing to join “Sherlock” season 5, Matsuura had a positive response.
“I totally would [join ‘Sherlock’ season 5]! I love that show,” Matsuura told DigitalSpy. “I've always been a huge fan of the show. I think it's phenomenal. The actors, the writing, how it's shot is so beautiful, and I had such a great experience. If [‘Sherlock’] went again, I would be delighted to step back into it. I would.”
Hopkins appeared at the beginning of season 4 hoping that she could also consult with Sherlock for a number of unsolved cases. She visited the Baker Street apartment and tried to persuade Sherlock to help her. But, unfortunately, Hopkins was not even invited to come in let alone receive help from the titular protagonist. Is it possible for her to receive a more important role in “Sherlock” season 5?
Hopkins’ brief appearance also established that she is somewhat a good friend to main character DI Greg Lestrade (Rupert Graves). That makes re-introducing her in “Sherlock” season 5 possible and not hard to do.
The truth is, however, it’s still difficult to predict the direction of “Sherlock” season 5’s plot. Series creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat have been very clear that they do not have hard plans yet for the continuation of the show. While they are very much open to working on a fifth installment, it has to wait until they wrapped up the making of the “Dracula” TV series and until BBC gives the green light.
