Konami confirmed what fans have already suspected for months, a remake of "Silent Hill 2" is coming. The game's console availability, however, will be limited to PS5 at launch.
A slate of upcoming "Silent Hill" games was announced on Wednesday, but the "Silent Hill 2" remake is undoubtedly the highlight of the day. Just mentioned in earlier leaks, the game is developed by Bloober Team. But it was also confirmed that the studio is "working closely" with developers from the original title, including composer Akira Yamaoka and creature designer Masahiro Ito.
Konami and Bloober Team are keeping the release date a secret for now. What the companies announced is that the "Silent Hill 2" remake will only launch on PC and PS5. It is possible, though, that the remake will be released on Xbox Series X/S at a later time. The teaser trailer posted on the PlayStation YouTube channel comes with a message at the end of the video that says the "Silent Hill 2" remake is "not available on other formats for 12 months after release." This suggests that its console exclusivity will be in place for a limited time only.

In a blog post released following the event, Konami and Bloober Team provided details on some of the changes fans can expect in the "Silent Hill 2" remake. While the game will still be played in the third-person perspective, it will add a new over-the-shoulder camera to offer more immersive gameplay. The developer is also "rebuilding the combat system and certain set-pieces" made possible by the new in-game perspective.
Bloober Team also confirmed the game would feature motion-captured scenes, while the teaser trailer shows an almost life-like environment and character models. The "Silent Hill 2" remake is developed in Unreal Engine 5, which the developer says allowed them to "deliver the best facial expressions in the series’ history" and "highly-detailed and realistic levels."
The game will also take advantage of the next-gen capabilities of PS5, such as 3D audio that allows players to determine a sound's direction easily. "Silent Hill 2" remake will support DualSense controller features, but Bloober Team says the specifics are being kept a secret for now. Lastly, the developer also confirmed the game would have no loading screens, thanks to PS5's SSD technology.
