Today, HBO announced that it has renewed its tech comedy series “Silicon Valley” for Season 5. The Verge said the announcement came as the show is currently airing its fourth season in the cable network, where they tackle topics from immortality, realities of artificial intelligence, to privacy policies.
“Silicon Valley,” which has won won two Emmys, features an ensemble cast including Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Jimmy O. Yang and Suzanne Cryer. From showrunners Mike Judge and former “Seinfeld” writer Alec Berg, the show pokes fun at the tech startup industry.
On the other hand, “Silicon Valley” will be missing a fan favorite in Season 5: startup incubator Erlich Bachman. AV Club reports that TJ Miller will not be returning for the show’s fifth installment. The actor, who has been getting a lot of movie work as of late, supposedly learned that he was being let go after reading the Season 4 finale script, and has yet to comment.
However, HBO said that Miller not being in Season 5 was a “mutual” decision.
“The producers of Silicon Valley and T.J. Miller have mutually agreed that T.J. will not return for season five. In Erlich Bachman, T.J. has brought to life an unforgettable character, and while his presence on the show will be missed, we appreciate his contribution and look forward to future collaborations,” a statement sent to Buzzfeed read.
