The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 could see a 21% price increase compared to last year’s model, pushing up the cost of flagship smartphones. This could result in more expensive high-end devices in the coming year.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Price Hike Expected
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will cost $240, according to Ice Universe's Weibo post. This is a 20% increase from last year.
The tipster's calculations seem accurate based on the newest amount, as we previously revealed that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was projected to cost $200. The rumored price for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with an integrated 5G modem or Wi-Fi only was not mentioned by Ice Universe, which is a crucial detail.
Leaked Variants: SM8750 and SM8750P
Two variants of Qualcomm's next system on a chip, codenamed "SM8750" and "SM8750P," were hinted to in a leaked specifications sheet. It was later uncovered that the SM8750P won't include a baseband chip, which means it will only be available in flagship tablets with Wi-Fi.
According to WCCFTECH, the speculated pricing may be for the whole package or for Qualcomm's integrated Snapdragon X80 5G modem, but it is unclear which. Once the silicon is formally revealed, we should be able to address this question.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Pricing Details Still Uncertain
Keep in mind that there are a lot of variables that make it hard to narrow down exactly how much the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will cost.
Since Qualcomm has probably struck separate deals with other companies, it stands to reason that it will not treat its partners fairly. Qualcomm stands to get more revenue from industry heavyweights like Samsung, which can ship millions of smartphones from its flagship series every year, and so may be granted more leeway in setting prices.
However, it's likely that corporations such as Xiaomi are handled differently. In sum, until we have more information, we should take the price rumors about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 with a grain of salt.
