As many gaming fans expected, the Electronic Entertainment Expo happening this week is the culmination of major announcements and previews of the most awaited titles in the video game industry. Luckily for fans of “Just Cause,” Square Enix joined the festivities and revealed the fourth installment of the series.
“Just Cause 4” was showcased at several press events held at E3, including Microsoft’s briefing last Sunday, where the addition of a dynamic weather system was first teased. But at Square Enix’s own presentation, fans were given a more extensive look at the upcoming gameplay feature.
A dynamic weather system simply means that the game’s environment can be experienced with heavy rains, snow, and the typical sunny weather. “Just Cause” developer Avalanche Studios and publisher Square Enix showed at E3 how that feature will subject returning main protagonist Rico Rodriguez to extreme challenges.
“Just Cause 4” is packed with new missions and takes Rico to the fictional South American nation of Solís. But the highlight feature affecting the way fans will play the game is rooted in the changing weather mechanism of the game.
At the beginning of Square Enix’s “Just Cause 4” teaser, Rico is seen on top of a mountain and watching a tornado. While the tornado may be a threat to Rico’s operation, different scenes in the trailer also show that an environmental phenomenon like this can work to the rogue agent’s advantage.
This means that “Just Cause 4” will challenge a player’s ability to formulate tactics for making natural disasters their ally in defeating Rico’s heavily armed and well-equipped enemies. Upon the game's release, players can expect to see Rico working his way through a blizzard, a sandstorm, and other highly dangerous weather conditions.
Since “Just Cause 4” provides a follow-up plot to the events of “Just Cause 3,” players can also expect to see Black Hand return. This organization of villains has become stronger, thanks to the help of the EDEN Corporation, which was introduced in “Just Cause 3” DLC.
“Just Cause 4” will be released on Dec. 4 on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One systems.
