Tesla has rescheduled the delivery of its affordable non-Foundation Cybertruck models to late 2024, disappointing many potential buyers.
Tesla Adjusts Cybertruck Delivery Plans
The previously anticipated delivery of Tesla Cybertrucks sans the $20,000 "Foundation Series" option would now begin in "late 2024," not this quarter.
Late in the previous year, Tesla began delivering its much-anticipated (and much-delayed) Cybertruck, and since then, the company has been slowly increasing production from that point on.
Per Electrek, the only trucks that Tesla has delivered up to this point are those that are part of the "Foundation Series."
High-End Cybertrucks Lead Production
These trucks are an early fully-loaded model that comes with an additional $20,000 option tacked on. Additionally, they come equipped with various additional features, such as Powershare bidirectional charging and additional badging, and most crucially, priority delivery. However, this comes with a price tag of over $120,000, which is far higher than the base price of $39,900 that was first promised.
As a result, a great number of potential buyers have been anxiously waiting for a trim that is more reasonably priced to be produced. According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who spoke at the company's shareholder meeting just two weeks ago, that time was expected to finally come this quarter.
On the other hand, customers who have placed orders have recently begun to receive emails in which it is stated that Tesla will "only" deliver the Foundation Series until "late 2024."
Affordable Cybertruck Models Expected in Late 2024
While the wording was not in the email before, it was noticed and shared on Reddit this past weekend.
This goes against Tesla's most recent announcements, which were made at the shareholder meeting only a few weeks ago.
Tesla also announced its recent "peak" production of 1,300 Cybertrucks per week at the same gathering.
Also, Tesla has been mum on the subject of Cybertruck delivery numbers. Deliveries of 21,551 "other models" were reported in today's delivery statement for Q2, which included both Model S and Model X. However, with Tesla's recall of 11,000 Cybertrucks just one week ago, we did have some indication of how many are currently in circulation.
Midway through April, Tesla recalled around 4,000 Cybertrucks; this provides us an idea of the run rate since then.
So, if Tesla keeps ramping up from there and appears to be running at a rate of a thousand trucks per week or more, it means there are still tens of thousands more six-figure Foundation Series vehicles yet to be delivered.
